According to an article on WARC.com (Feb 12, 2009) UK advertising spend could grow by 53% by 2020! This is an annual compound growth of 4%.
And what's even better news than that? Online advertising revenues are predicted to definitively surpass TV by 2010, with ad-spend reaching £3.3bn compared to television's mere £3.0bn. Plus - by 2013 online ad-spend is predicted to leapfrog that of the total press.
By 2020, internet advertising could account for a massive 44% share of all UK advertising spend: which is greater than that of the combined totals of television and Press (40%).
The article does then point out that this is the optimistic "high option" and have also come up with a more pessimistic "low option", where ad-spend grows by 28% by 2020. Looks to me like, either way, digital is in good shape… it's just that one shape is much more comfortable than the other!
Display advertising is proposed to grow by 29% (high) and 8% (low) and classifieds (with online search driving the improvement) are predicted to grow by 95% (high) or 64% (low).
Makes the team here at Blue Barracuda proud to continue delivering our digital bite!
